Browsing quickly through ebay, I find myself annoyed at some sellers and just how they 'display' kimono that they have found in their attic. Does anyone else get grossed out when you see said seller in the kimono, naked or not wearing much beneath? I don't know, I don't like someone wearing something I'm going to buy in their birthday suit, even if it's a washable something, much less a Kimono. I don't know, I just think it shows a huge lack of professionalism. I don't want anyone's arm pits on something I'm buying, if not worse things as well. ::shudder::

Hum, I don't, what's your guys' greatest Kimono peeve, or other things that generally annoy you, ebay or not, about kimono, conceptions, etc, etc?

::sigh::

My Peeves:

when the seller does not List sleeve length, especially for juban. RYUJIRO, I'M LOOKIN' AT YOU!

Kimona/Komona/Kamono/Kamona. You usually see this with the older set on Ebay.

At Japanese festivals, people who are wearing juban as a kimono.

Those fake bathrobes that you get on Ebay when you merely search "Kimono." You know, the ones from like, Hong Kong.

Oh, yeah Tsuruko, and what you said. Yech.

Seriously dude, it annoys me to no end. I honestly don't care if I sound mean to to someone when they fail at kimono. There are plenty of resources out there on how to do it right, like forums like this, books, etc. All one has to do is ask someone who does know, the proper way of doing things and we'd be more then happy to help. What bothers me more is people who know better and choose to still to the campy costumy bathrobe cheap asian hooker look still. It all perpetuates a stereotype which many have been trying to get past for years.

Just the other day, I emailed this Cosplay site about the issue of them MISLEADING their customers...

"We feature high quality authentic Japanese Kimonos and robes in a wide variety of patterns and styes both traditional and modern."

http://cosplaystation.ca/japanese-kimono.html

...The email I got back was "Oh, I love Kimono too. They are so beautiful." From the owner.

What annoys me is that many Japanese people are perpetuating this stereotype, too. I go to the shopping areas, and there are Japanese-run shops selling the fake, cheezy, Japanish souvenirs to foreigners, which include the satin-chinese like 'kimona'. I really hate those shops, and I'll see foreigners in there looking at all that stuff. I want to go in there and tell them there's real kimono shop two streets over with better deals, but I can't save every dumb foreigner out there.

Why is it that when you search for Kimono, you get these Shirts? What is that all about. I mean I get that they call the shirt a kimono, but I wish that ebay would do more to distinguish between the two.

And the bathrobe thing gets on my nerves too. IT IS A BATHROBE, NOT A KIMONO!!!!!

I feel as if Kimono is one of the most misunderstood pieces of clothing in the world.
