If this should be in the eBay section rather than here, I apologize--I'm still a little jittery from actually winning this and may not be altogether here... On the offhand chance that it turned out to be what it sort of looks like it could be, I bid on this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180388966616&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT. I know that sometimes the difference between tomosode and geisha susohiki can be a little hazy, but it looks so much like the ones Ichiroya has for sale that I had to do it, and I read somewhere that the ivy crest is sometimes used by geisha as a symbol of how closely they grow to their clients. What's your opinion? I will be completely happy with this beauty either way!

Haha, I was going to bid on that, actually! But I was sick! Congrats for it to going to someone on the board.
But yes, it is a Hikizuri. That crest is actually the same used by the Miyagawa-cho okiya Kawayoshi and Honjo, so it could very well be from there original.
Please do provide us with some pictures of it when you get it in! Ikimaru and I were drooling over it, and had quite a few questions because of the crests!

That 'pinhole' could be fixed by a competent technician. Certainly if you brought it to Japan it could be rewoven. I hope you can find someone to do it in your neighborhood.
It is such a beautiful kimono, it would be worth restoring that damaged spot.
Regards, JL

Hikizuri, I'd say. I was going to bid on this too, but the seller had only ship to USA in the auction. Congratulations. It's a beauty. I'm glad someone on the board got it too!

Yatta!! Erm...I mean, thank you. I was so sure, but I didn't trust myself because none of the rest of you fought me for it! ...I told myself it would be worth $50 as a tomosode anyways and ran with it.
Tsuruko-san, I hope you start feeling better fast, and for you, I'll definitely post photos of it. Unfortunately, I'm not nearly as familiar with individual okiya as others, but would like to be! Especially the ones this may have come from. I know each district has it's own subtle touches on the standard maiko/geiko dress, and I would love to know what kanzashi (for example) would have been worn with this.
Thank you everyone!
