Those stitches are known as "basting lines" and are used to loosely hold something together as temporary stitches. The kimono that you bought is a karinui, so it'll need to be stitched together properly to be worn. Once the permanent stitches are in you just simply remove the basting ones and it'll be fine :)

Guys I need you'r help please! I wanted to buy a kimono for a long, long time but I simply didn't (and still don't) have enough money to afford one. Few days ago I saw on one site that someone listed some vintage haori and is selling them for a really cheap price (also, they are in excellent condition). One haori is 160 cm long, which is perfect for me. So, I wanted to ask if there is any visible difference between a haori that long and a regular kimono and could I wear it instead of a kimono until I'm in a situation where I can afford myself a real one? :thanks:

I've never seen a haori that long, is it possible that it's mislabeled? If you don't want to post it here you can PM me. I can also help you find cheap kimono – have you tried Shinei?

Also, you cannot substitute a haori for a kimono, the panels and collar are constructed differently and it would look strange.

One more question from me guys. I was wandering if you know any good online shops that sell cheap, regular, white juban/nagajuban? My price range is everything for $20 or cheaper. Thank you in advanced :thanks: :)

Be careful, it's full of temptations ;).

But I advise you to use their ebay's account or at least to do a comparison when you're interested by an item :
http://www.ebay.com/usr/sou_japan?_trks ... 1543.l2754

I bought my hiki there, it was cheaper than on their website and without postal charges.
Take a look for the same hiki (both free shipping) :
http://www.net-qp.com/en/item/detail.php?Item=1981916 = 531$

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1927494-JAPANES ... Sw~bFWJg-j = 351$
8)

My pleasure :).
It was this difference which decided me to buy my hiki that I was looking on their website since 11 months ^^.

Aaaw I'm so frustrated at myself ! I dscovered this thread, went on Sou's ebay store, got amazed at the collection and cheap prices and discovered two fabulous furisode (I litterally fell in love with them). Yesterday evening I hesitated, saw that a person had already placed a bid on both of them, so I promised myself I would check it this morning before the end of the auction and see.
It's almost 5pm and I just remembered what I wanted to do. Farewell, beautiful pieces

Does somebody know what are this sort of kimono ? It has the same kind of patterns than modern yukata (but it's not yukata) and it's neither regular furisode...
