I like the Geisha's world but I am western and I should not intrude.
my last visit to Kyoto, I am horrified and foreigners and stopped bothering to maikos without thinking that they are working.
I gave my embarrassment. I had the opportunity to speak with Koai and Mamechiho (still maiko) and apologize for the behavior of foreign

Other years one could photograph the geisha and maiko with respect and asking permission. They stood in a hurry or if they had apologized.
Now I see as the maiko girls that are about 16 or 17 years are acorroladas and scared. Mamechiho told me that some maiko themselves being Japanese drunks throwing cigarette butts on the back neck of the kimono.

I have heard that now there is a security service in Gion Kobu, men who protect maiko-san in the streets against these pitiful persons.

I heard about the protectors through youtube. It's a shame people harass or hurt the talented maiko and geiko, in some cases all for a few images.

I heard about the protection too. I also heard that tourists pull the kimono of Maiko and Geiko just for fun. ::raeg::
