Konnichiwa !

I'm surprised to find here so many people with strong knowledges about geimaiko's world. I just hope i'll find enough time to post but..."ganbarimas(u)" !

I've always been interested in japanese's culture...and last spring (may 2016), as i was visiting Kyoto, i walked cross Pontocho's main street and i saw many people standing in front of what seems to be a theater. Inside, there was a maiko (with first year hana-kanzashi) chatting with some people. On the wall, i saw a poster in japanese and i understood that there were will be a show : the kamogawa odori. A unique chance to discover geimaiko's world.

So i came the day after to by a ticket at the opening.

To be honest, i was the only gajin in the whole theater. I didn't know any of maiko or geiko's name at that time. I didn't understand any dialogue from the first part (very closed to kabuki, so difficult to catch a single word). I was only able to make difference beetween maiko and geiko. Nevermind, that was a fascinating show. True and authentic aesthetic. Essence of beauty.

Since then, i feel connected in some ways with that culture.

Next spring i'll be back to Kyoto. I'm not sure if it will be in april or may, but off course i'll try to see one or several odori (Miyako or Kyo odori will be great, if i can be there in april); maybe also maiko's dance at Gion Corner, and why not "open ozashiki for foreigners" if it possible.

So i will be happy to talk with you about kagai and geimaiko!

Mata kondo !
