OK, it's another very special group of Japanese girls... but that's about it, these are totally superficial, lacking the rich content of maiko and geiko. Material girls, period. And like the old Model T Fords, they're available in all colors, as long as you accept pink. Her boudoir hurt my eyes! EDIT On the other hand, there's always a surprise at hands in Japan. Having gotten utterly tired of all that pink, I paused the movie at about 5:30 and posted the link here. Giving it a final spin next, about five seconds later she changed dress into something unpink, and after 6:05 the mood of the flick starts to change dramatically... About time someone tells the Japanese once again some things just don't go together...

You can't say they are superficial just because of the way they dress... a maiko's outfit costs probably double what they are wearing, and maiko wear more makeup, take more time on their hair, etc.
They are just very into a certain style, like you have your goths, preps, visual kei, gyaru, lolita kids. I understand where they can seem superficial, but that's more of a personality flaw than a style of dress.
Not my style, but hey at least they are committed! Go big or go home, lol.

Kikuyo-san, It was not their dress I had in mind first and foremost when choosing 'superficial', rather the comparison to maiko and geiko. Maybe I did not make that clear enough, English not being my mother's tongue after all. Whereas both groups are highly conspicuous as to their respective "looks", my words "rich content" were meant to indicate the latter group's total "baggage" of education, cultural background etc., which the princesses of course lack [not their fault, really, but they lack it]. If that's what you meant by "personality" we even more or less agree. Yet I agree it's true they, too, are committed.

I love their dresses! I'll write something much more constructive when I have time to watch the whole video

I wish I could be bothered to spend that much time on my hair. What pretty curls I'd have.
