http://www.asialearn.org/destinations/japan/I went to my college's Study Abroad Fair and picked up this great booklet from AsiaLearn. AsiaLearn gives lots of opportunities to go abroad and study in places like China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand. I picked it up since I'm taking a Chinese language course right now (since Japanese wasn't available) and I flipped through to the Japan section. It seems really great. You get to go to Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). You can go for Asian Studies or International Mgmt. The program includes an option to: experience Japanese-style living through homestays, touring Kumamoto castle, visiting Mt. Aso, traditional Japanese cultural performance, and stuff like that. Some programs include:
intensive language programs for beginners-intermediate (12 95-min courses each week!), academic courses, APU buddies (local students), over night field trip to Nagasaki. Unfortunately, it costs around $12,000 not included meals and housing. (Housing is about $2000 extra).
Theres another option too: World Campus- Japan. Which seems like more fun, less academics. You get to go to shrines, temples, tea ceremonies, hot springs, festivals, taiko drumming, touring internat. businesses, learning about life in large cities/small communities, courtesy visits w/gov officials... Theres also language programs it seems too. And you get to stay in Japanese homes! Its 2-weeks long, and probable during Spring Break it seems. At least its only $2,500, housing included.
