I've been making some lately for presents and for myself so i thought I'd share them.
they're not traditional in the sense that they're not silk, made with rice glue or mounted on prongs.
But they're cute to wear to work and funky enough to interest people who mightn't care for the more traditional ones.

Beautiful work! I really love the roses - especially that light pink one. Too cute! I've been trying a few roses myself and can't quite get the hang of them yet.

thank you everyone!!!
and i forgot to add a link so here it is...
http://www.flickr.com/photos/29015725@N08/
~mariko~ they're maples, not Japanese maples but ordinary kind, i find they're very easy to make, bt if your not careful with the positioning f the petals they end up looking like pine!
Image
see the green pines in the middle? they were meant to be green maples...
i think the roses are also easy when you get the hang of them
Image
just make your starting point with a pointed petal, like you normally would,
then for the next petal, after folding the square once, twice in half,(like normal, but don't fold it a third time to finish the petal like normal)
hug it around the first petal.
does that make sense? you don't finish the second petal like you usually would because its going around the first petal...
Image
that's what i was trying to copy in any case...

I find your kanzashi beatiful and made in an accurate way. You can list pics on your websyte for sale. I'm serious.
P.S. How have I prononse this word in a right way? where have I make stress: kanzAshi or kanzashI?

Vogel, those are beautiful. I love the colors!

Remember, when you're posting from flickr, you need to remove the =v from the url for it to show up. I've already edited it for you, but just want to let you know. ;)

it's KANzashi - in Japanese, stress is placed (typically) on the first syllable of each word.

Vogel - those are absolutely beautiful! They would be right at home in Japan; they are making all sorts of kanzashi these days, using new methods that don't follow the traditional but they are still considered appropriate for kimono wear. The ones that I bought (in Tokyo and in Tanabe-ki mind you) are made using a sort of felt flower secured to combs/picks using floral wire and tape. Your work is excellent & you should be proud!

I'm going to dress as a senior maiko for haloween. I've never made kanzashi before and am a bit intimidated by the October gaint crysanthemum; I was thinking of making a grouping of ginkgo leaves instead as that would be much easier. What do you think about that, is it a good substitution? Any other suggestions?
