Hello, my name is DameDiabolique. I am a new member on this forum. Thanks TsurokoMaiko for inviting me to visit the forum. Your layout is extremely beautiful, unique, and sophisticated.
I have been interested in Geisha since I was about 5 years old. Although back then I did not know that they were Geisha; My grandmother has one of those authentic, priceless, Geisha dolls from Japan that are worth a lot of money. It was a beautiful and since then I have been interested in Japanese art and culture. I like Geisha because they represent a fading style that is yet refined and graceful and may even last a lifetime. I have learned a lot about Geisha life and their traditions, however, I am not Japanese and have never been to Japan. So for right now, the internet is my only venue to learn more. Than and reading the many books available pertaining to the tradition. But I still have a lot to learn.
In other news, I am a graduation of Community College and I will be attending Western Kentucky University in the Fall. I am getting a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts for Graphic Design. I am 20 and I am an African American female. I am also into the Punk, Hardcore, Metal scene as well. I used to be a show promoter.
I have accomplished many things in the arts in my area. I won Honorable Mention two years in a row in the State of Kentucky's Congressional Art Contests. My drawing and my paintings have been hung in the Governer's home for 1 year. I have also won many regional art contests and won a lot of my school art contests.
I have a Flickr Account and I do digital artwork and photography for that. I even have some geisha style artwork. I also have a YouTube Channel with a Playlist I update very often with almost 100 geisha videos and I always keep up with new ones.
I will update my profile soon.
My favorite Maiko is Konomi from Gion Kobu and my favorite Geiko is...oooh, that one is tough...I will just tell you all of my favorites: Kikumaru, Komomo, Fukunami, Ichisuzu, Sayoko, Yuiko, Terukoma, Kikuno, Mamechika, and Yukako.
Thanks for inviting Me!!!!!!

Taking a leave and the Hiragana lessons:
Since the Fall Semester is over, I will not be online as much. I don't have DSL at home anymore and therefore I have to use library computers whenever I need to get online. So I will probably pop in every other day.
While I am on my break, I will be working on the Hiragana lessons thing I promised. I will still have my computer and my scanner so I will write out, scan them, and whenever I do get online, upload them to the forum.
Spring Semester starts January 22 and so I will be back in my dorm and back to having 24/7 high speed internet access...I cannot stand Dial Up. It's retarded...LOL!

Hey, Dame, good to see you around! Everyone has been so busy, including me, though I've been taking things slow since I can't do all that much. Just broke my wrist. :/
Congrats on all your accomplishments, and I'm crossing my fingers for ya! Perhaps we could work on Hiragana together? I just started my Japanese classes ( as a Junior, hilariously enough. ) and I'm learning my hiragana, along with some other things!

Congrats on reaching your senior year. If you need any help with the hiragana lessons, I'd be happy to help. I learned my hiragana years ago .

Just to add a couple more Updates. I have officially finished a lot of cool things. I am almost done creating my first real website. I will have it posted my Monday night. I am using Adobe DreamWeaver. I could have been making webpages a long time ago if I had known that most webpages are made with Photoshop images.... LOL. This webpage I am posting is going to be very simple. It is a webpage dedicated to myself. I have also completed my first FLASH animation. So now I can start working on a Flash Geisha anime series next summer. At least that is what I want to do... Also, I am officially in a sorority. I am a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc. It is a historically black sorority (they do let other ethnicity in). It was the only Black Sorority founded on a white campus (the other three were founded at Howard, a black university) and the only one founded by school teachers (the other three were founded by undergrads). Our mission is the enhance the quality of life in our community through education and giving people the resources they need to succeed. We are a social organization based on community service and scholarship. I am also in a relationship. I have been in a relationship with my boyfriend for over a month now. His name is Roberto and he is 25. He is also an artist. Here are a list of programs I have been working with. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash. I am going to get my first Mac computer this Spring semester. The Hiragana lessons are still in the works but will be coming very soon. Illustrator has Hiragana, Kanji, and Katakana scripts and all I have to do is apply them on Photoshop and this describe what each one is. Not Hard. So I just need to make my images, prepare my lessons, and incorporate them into the forums. Which is what I will be doing next week after Finals. I am still an RA and it has been a challenge for me. I am kind of like a community advisor and manager of one of the dormitories. I and 7 other people manage 15 staff and almost 500 young ladies. Some of my best moments were organizing a FASHION SHOW which turned out to be a HUGE success and getting to do a lot of social activities. The bad moments are having to write people up for marijuana and alcohol in their rooms and having to get the police to escort residents and their guests out. I encourage you all to add me on Facebook and Myspace. My real name is Veronica Newman so feel free to add me. Is ANYONE interested in starting a REAL Geisha Group on Facebook kind of like our forums? Here is the link to my first professional website. http://www.wku.edu/~veronica.newman862
