I have finished my latest drawing which is a portrait of Satohana. If you would like to see it and read my thoughts on it, please click onto my latest post

From that post you can click onto a work-in-progress page to see how I 'built' the drawing. Thank you.

I've just uploaded five new photos onto flickr - from my trip in March. Some need identifying. They are the latest on my photostream. Please have a look and tell me who's who. Here is one of the links http://www.flickr.com/photos/juliepodst ... 082406712/
The photo who's link is here is amusing to me - because I hadn't even noticed I'd taken it until Kyouka on IG asked if anyone had a close up of this hiki. The photo was hiding in my album.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/juliepodst ... 126256066/ Please have a look through my photostream to see the rest. Several of the maiko and geiko are unnamed because I do not know their names. I would be happy if you would comment with their names. Thank you.

My latest post (today) is called Five Views of Kotomi.
It tells the story of when I saw her dance at Kyoto Kokusai Hotel in 2008 and then drew her five times in 2009.

It has been a while but I now have a new drawing to share with you. It is a drawing I have only finished today - but it is from a photo I took on 3rd Feb 2011 - of Katsuyuki during the second day of her erikae. Please look at my blog post to see the drawing and read what I have to say about it on http://juliepodstolski.wordpress.com/20 ... rvation-2/ From the post you can also click onto the work-in-progress page where you can see the drawing in six steps from start to finish. Thanks for looking!

Thank you, Mousy, for your comment here and also on my blog. I always appreciate your comments. Honestly - I had no idea how I would draw that obi. I'm glad it worked out though the REAL obi was more beautiful than my version of it. I simplified what was really there!

Right at the moment I'm working on a new drawing of Katsuyuki from the day of her erikae - even though it happened in February 2011. Time doesn't matter to me. I draw from a particular photo of mine when I am ready to even if it is three years after the event. Hopefully it will be finished in a week or so.
In the meantime I have written a post about the first time I saw Katsuyuki and Mameyuri in 2007. In the post are the eight drawings which came out of this ONE afternoon, 29th September and the written account of it. Please have a look...

You were so lucky! :D And I have a problem... I don't know what's better the drawings or the story! I just LOVE the drawing 'The Feminine Mystique', great job! :thanks:

I am truly amazed by your work! I especially love how you draw every detail of the kimono and obi!
And what a wonderful story!

Thank you for your lovely comments Akiko and Mousy (and Mousy I always love it when you comment on my blog post itself...THANK YOU). The details of kimono and obi are what I particularly love to draw. I guess I'm a detail junkie!
At present my Katsuyuki drawing is coming along very nicely. I really look foward to showing you ... I'm sure it will be next week.
I went to Japan JUST to see Katsuyuki's erikae. I would fly to Japan to see somebody else's erikae too - Satsuki. I suppose it is still a couple of years away?

I have a new drawing. It is a portrait of Katsuyuki during her erikae on February 2nd 2011. OK, so I have drawn it three years and three months after I witnessed the event. Never mind - better late than never.
