I uploaded a movie called "The Please Quarter" aka "Killing in Yoshiwara" yesterday. It is about tayu and you guessed it! Yoshiwara. It is one of my favorites.

Cortana wrote: One of the best movies I have seen about the flower and willow world is "Sakuran". You can either buy a copy or bittorrent it. It is amazing. It's about the life of an Oiran named Kyoha and is based on a manga of the same name.

Aren'T they stunning? I saw a piece from that on youtube Beatiful!8)
About Japanese movies: I think the best Japanese movies were made by Kurosava. Even he tortured his actors with numorous "doubles" and he obviously didn't care about financial success... he was and he is n.1 in Japanese movie's making industry. Other were from n2 (Osima:great but .. what to say... He sold out his muse for a very good money) and 3 , 3,5 and etc.

I agree with Black_Jasmine about Kurosawa Akira. His movies, often featuring Mifune Toshiro, are superb! Seven Samurai, Yojimbo, Sanjuro and of course the epic Ran. And my goodness, those actresses... Kyo Machiko, Uehara Misa, and of course Harada Mieko as the ferocious Lady Kaede [I gulped too]. EDIT Oct 8th: Added her picture. It should be here anyway. Okaay, it's the third time it appears somewhere on the Board, but it's the last time too, I promise. [Unless she commands again... ] Tsukiryuu, why did you not mention his Kagemusha? I saw your motto

I loved the Grave of the Fireflies. It's so sad. I really like Kaidan (a.k.a. Kwaidan). It's mostly Japanese ghost stories like Yuki Onna and Hoichi the Earless.
