Hi! I'm Dante, a 19yo from Italy, and I'm a Uni student! maikoemotebase
While it's been a long time since my love for Japan began, just recently it became more geiko and maiko oriented, so I still have lots to learn about the topic! I admire so much their elegance and style, and the dedication they put in their art.
:chuuu:
Apart from that, in my spare time I mainly read (I just finished Mineko Iwasaki's autobiography!), draw, and play videogames.
Nice to meet you all!

Welcome Dante :D

I love to read and draw – what sort of books are you into? Favorite artists?

Do you have a favorite maiko or geiko yet? :D

Welcome! :D Hope you'll enjoy the forum!

I'm also a first year university student! Alongside Japanese culture my great passion is archaeology and I really wanted to study that, but since they don't have an archaeology program on my town uni and since I could't afford going to another city or country where that option would be available I had to go with history instead. What are you studying and what are your first impressions of life as a student? I was a bit confused at the beginning but I think I fit in quite nicely by now. :)

Hi Shizuka!
My preference in books varies with what interests I have at the moment, mainly- for example, right now I mostly read books about geiko and traditional japanese culture (as well as chinese culture and language, which are at the moment other strong interests of mine, but I digress).
I still have to find good books about traditional arts, especially about the tea ceremony, traditional dance, and kabuki, so for now I just read forums and blog posts. But I'm sure I'll find something, with time ^^
As for artists, I'm enamoured of the Impressionist movement, so Monet is probably my favourite artist.
My favourite maiko is Umechie! I just find her so lovely. :D

Hi Akiko!
I am studying medical biotechnology! I love this course, and the job I'll get at the end of my studies. I feel very inclined to research. Uni definitely has a different feeling than high school, which is very positive, considering I really disliked my old school. I probably don't fit in much (I never really do), but here I feel more free to do my thing, without caring too much about others' judgement. Since I'm very shy, this is important to me! maikoemotebase
