I'm a college student, and I enjoy making kanzashi. Naturally, these are not the same kanzashi maiko or geiko might wear; these are modern hair ornaments based off these traditional designs.
All of my kanzashi are handmade. Materials are specified from kanzashi to kanzashi, but most of them are silk.
Kanzashi are made from many squares of fabric which are then folded into individual petals. The kanzashi with the "fuji" (falls of petals on strings, sometimes called "wisteria") often have close to 200 petals total! As each petal is folded individually, this represents quite a bit of time.
If you like my kanzashi, I hope you can find the perfect one for you in my shop. If not, feel free to custom order one! See etsy for details!
