why wont you watch it? have you read the book?

haven't either.

i always refused to watch it because of all the diffrences to the real maikos / hanamachi. i wouldn't enjoy watching it. i know i would only look at the details and trying to find what they got wrong. *blush*

well the houses look realistic, but if you went on whats wrong we could spend all day doing that, from the plain buned hair to the crappy makeup......... hehe that kinda sound like fun to me a little bit..

ye..in the movie pumkin wore a furisode with fire flies on it in the dead of winter!!!...i mean whats that all about??!!...there are lot more mistakes!!!

Ok can we stop with the Memoirs of a Geisha bash here. Many people who watched that movie or read the book actually became inspired to want to learn more about Hanamachi life. I have talked to so many people who have, I show it some appreciation. You never know, maybe there was a geisha there who actually lived that kind of life(NOT MINEKO IWASAKI, who despite her MAD GEISHA SKILLZ, I think she was rather arrogent and trying to do a whole coverup on certain "aspects" of geisha life).

Though I also believe that all the geisha who told Mineko to kill herself on the steps of the Ichiriki deserved a swift kick in the kimono right now. The whole Maiko boom that has just happened in the Hanamachi's is most likely a direct result of Mineko opening up about the life of a Geiko, and also because of Memoirs making the live appear glamorous to outsiders.

Think about it, if you will.

I think it's about time for another DotW. Hmmm. . . Seeing how this is moving to MoaG, maybe a discussion for that. Not to be a bashing thread. It seems we're a little divided on MoaG, but I think it'd be a worthwhile discussion. . .

well i liked the movie just thought they could have been more accurate withit.....

ye..i wasnt "bashing" it!!! and that was the book that inspired me...its jut now i look back on it and see!!!!!!....and i love mineko iwasaki and i feel really sorry for her!!!

true and mineko-chan even tried to help with the movie so they could atleast get it right and she gave up on them...... doesn't that tell you something.?

true but for some people it was misleading. yes it was beautiful. and just think about this how many other movies have been based on books fiction or non fiction and pretty much all have been fairly accurate. so i really don't think it was too much for them to make the makeup whiter or put on a katsura, or even wear the corrct kimono! and as you can see i do hold high standards for movies with multi million dollar budgets......
